Az első robogóklubok az 1950-es évek végén, 1960-as évek elején alakultak Londonban, mint a Mod (modernizmus) szubkultúra egyik velejárója. Hogy minél többen láthassák divatos ruhájukat, frizurájukat és táncukat, a Modok éjszakánként a bárokat járták. Mivel tömegközlekedés nem volt, leggyakrabban Lambretta vagy Vespa robogókat használtak.
